The visual appeal of your pool really starts to degrade when the surface and the walls of the pool are covered in a green layer of algae. There can be a number of attributable factors than con increase the likelihood of algae forming in your pool.
  • Chlorine levels have depleted - Depending on the conditions outside, such as a heavy rain, or fast moving winds, the movement in the swimming pool can cause the chlorine levels to dip.
  • pH-level - If the pH levels of your pill exits the optimal range of 7.2-7.6, the water might prevent the chlorine from adequately destroying the formation of algae.
  • The surface of the pool is dirty - If there is a lot of action going on in your pool, such as leaves landing in your pool, animals, or animal hair going for a float, or just general dirt falling in, if it is something that the vacuum does not suck up, it can contribute to the formation of algae growth.

If you are dealing with green, yellow, or black algae problems in your swimming pool, hot tub, or spa, call in the best algae treatment squad in Walnut Creek today at (925) 269-9399

If you notice cloudy pool water, or a hint of a green hue in your pool, you may have an algae problem arising. The various types of algae include green algae, black algae and Mustard Algae.
  • Green algae - The most common of the bunch, this floats on surface and sticks to walls turning the pool to a visible green color. Green algae is identifiable by seeing a floating moss-like substance in the water, or sticking to the walls of your swimming pool
  • Black Algae - Growing on the surface of the pool, black algae it appears as a black layer, almost film like that is a little harder brush than other types of algae. Black algae can be sticking to the walls or floor of your pool, and if felt with a hand or other body part, it will feel slick to touch.
  • Mustard Algae - A lighter color than other algae, often appearing in a yellowish or orange color on the walls of the pool, once this problem arises, it is often the most difficult type of algae to get rid of. Chlorine is often resisted by mustard algae, and it will sometimes take a special kind of chemical to completely obliterate this yellow algae and prevent it from reappearing. Mustard algae can be identified by touching a wall or floor of the pool and feeling a slippery or oily like substance.
To combat algae problems, we recommend the following:
  • Make sure anything that contributes to the cleaning of the pool is working sufficiently, this includes pumps, vacuums, filters, etc...
  • Verify if the pH level of the pool is in the optimal range of 7.2 pH and 7.6 pH.
  • Buy an algae chemicals from a local pool cleaning store, and use the provided instructions to put it in your pool.
  • The following day, run your vacuum across the walls and floor of your pool. Brush the walls of the pool as well. Check the filter again, and clean it as necessary.
  • Use another algae chemicals if there is still algae regrowth
  • If it is mustard or black algae, you may need to contact a professional to use a special kind of algaecide to treat the problem. You may also try shocking your pool.
